Vijay Darda has not only excelled in arts, sports, politics and social service but has also proved his mettle in the world of business. Having picked up the reins of a start-up newspaper from his father veteran freedom fighter, statesman and journalist Shri. Jawaharlal Darda, he converted it into a hugely successful media enterprise.

Lokmat was launched as a Marathi daily newspaper from Nagpur on December 15, 1971. Vijay Darda was instrumetal in rapid expansion of the newspaper across Maharashtra and adjoining states. Over the next 25 years, Darda along with his brother Rajendra ensured Numero Uno position of Lokmat among all Marathi dailies. At the same time, they launched other group dailies such as Lokmat Samachar (Hindi) and Lokmat Times (English). The group's total readership today stands over 25 million daily.

The fruit of his labour in the form of the present Lokmat Media Pvt. Ltd. is consistently delivering value not only for the enterprise but for millions of its readers and viewers, thousands of employees, vendors, suppliers, bankers and most importantly the society at large.
