LAYING THE FOUNDATION FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
Vijay Darda has been carrying forward the legacy of his father Shri.Jawaharlal Darda in building and nurturing educational institutions. He is very passionate about imparting quality education in interiors of Vidarbha region, particularly in Yavatmal district. Due to his vision and efforts, thousands of students have an opportunity to access quality education and gain the foundation for a bright future. Strictly a non-profit activity, Vijay Darda has created a complete ecosystem whereby a student can learn from “K.G. to P.G” (Kindergarten to post graduation) in various streams. Collectively, nearly 25,000 students study in these various institutes. Some of the institutes founded and/or headed by Vijay Darda include
1. Jawaharlal Darda Institute of Engineering & Technology
Filling the societal need for technical education in this backward area is the Jawaharlal Darda Institute of Engineering and Technology (JDIET) that was set up in 1996 as part of Vijay Darda's vision for education sector. In the last fifteen years, it has grown into a center for excellence in technical education with all its courses being accredited as 'A' grade by the National Board for Accreditation, New Delhi. It has 1600 engineering students on its roll and has an annual intake of 480 students. At present JDIET offers courses in BE Computer Science & Engg, Information Technology, Electronics & Telecommunication, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil,Chemical & Textile engineering..
2. Yavatmal Public School
Founded in 2006, the Yavatmal Public School is the first school in the Yavatmal district offering CBSE curriculum. It has fast emerged as the most premier school in the district with about 1650 students studying from nursery to Std. X. The school is equipped with all the modern teaching facilities including a beautifully designed computer lab.
3. Amolakchand Law College
Amolakchand Law College was founded under the chairmanship of Vijay Darda in the academic year 2004-05 although the law faculty was instituted in 1962. Darda would often express his desire to build a modern law college with good facilities such as a mock court, classrooms, library, etc. He converted his dream into reality in 2009 when the modern building of Amolakchand Law College was inaugurated at Yavatmal, Maharashtra. With 300 students on its rolls, it offers three-year and five-year degree courses in law. Apart from its excellent teaching traditions, the college has emerged as centre of thought provoking exchange of ideas through various events. These events were attended by the prominent personalities from all over the country such as the then President Ms. Pratibha Patil who spoke at a conference on “Justice for Women”. The then Union law minister M. Veerappa Moily, former Union minister and senior constitutional expert Kapil Sibal and other jurists have participated in these vibrant exchange of ideas.
4. College of Physical Education (Hanuman Vyayamshala Krida Mandal)
This center for physical education at Yavatmal has been working since 1980 offering undergraduate and post-graduate courses in physical education for degrees and diplomas. It is a well-equipped institution with a huge sports complex and indoor stadium that has played host to various national sporting events. It has the facilities to train 350-400 sportsmen and instructors in various disciplines like volleyball, table tennis, badminton, kho-kho and wrestling.
5. Amolakchand Mahavidyalaya
It was in 1956, that Amolakchand Mahavidyalaya, the first of the chain of educational institutions now under the stewardship of Vijay
Darda, was founded. It was a landmark day as the then prime minister
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru inaugurated the college building. This institution has grown over the five decades into a premier centre for learning and offers under-graduate courses in arts, commerce, sciences, computer science, management studies, besides nine post-graduate courses.
Past leaders such as the then president of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former vice-president Mr. Bhairon Singh
Shekhawat and the then Maharashtra chief minister Mr. Yashwantrao Chavan
have all had been an honoured guests on various occasions during the historic journey of this institution.
6. Anglo Hindi High School and Junior College
The Anglo Hindi High School and Junior College, Yavatmal, is run by Hindi Prasarak Mandal, Berar, an educational society established in 1934 and now headed by Vijay Darda. While imparting quality education to students from different castes, communities and religions, the Anglo Hindi HS and Jr College has also kept pace with modernisation thereby translating Darda's vision of providing affordable education to all into reality.
With introduction of Computer subject in pre-primary level itself, the school today has approximately 50 computers and a well equipped laboratory. Computer education is imparted to such students who otherwise could not have afforded it. Today, about 1,200 students are taking education in the high school and junior college.
